Rabbi logs on to help followers find love

A rabbi in the US is playing matchmaker and trying to help members of his congregation find new love interests.

Rabbi Bob Eisen of the Congregation Anshei Israel has been reportedly buying memberships to an online dating service and distributing them among his flock, according to the Arizona Republic.

He told the newspaper that he came across the idea after getting the impression that there were lots of single people who were looking for relationships.

"I really think it's an important part of living a meaningful life," he commented, adding that the demographic shifts and technological advances of the "post-global society" were undermining traditional forms of relationship-building.

Over the following months, ten other rabbis have followed Eisen's example and begun logging on to help their followers find love and companionship.

It is believed that an American rabbi is responsible for kick starting the worldwide phenomenon of speed dating in 1990s.
