Mind your language

Here’s a common dating turn off: Swearing

If you’ve doing this then you need to stop right now! Swearing isn’t sexy!

It’s a common scenario.  You’ve arrange to meet for a date and are really looking forward to meeting the new person.   But when you sit down for a drink or a meal they can’t stop themselves from using obscene language.  It’s a turn off for most people.   You wouldn’t do it if you were going for a job interview or meeting your gran for afternoon tea would you? So what makes you think it’s appropriate on a date.

If you accidentally let out a mild rude word or two then don’t worry too much about it.  It’s when you constantly punctuate your conversation with them that you need to think more carefully.   Sometimes it’s easy to get carried away and use overtly sexual terms just to get a reaction.  Everyone swears in different amounts – from almost never  to full blown drunken sailor swearing.  So err on the side of caution and avoid anyone taking offence.

If you hear your date swearing then don’t be tempted to do the same just to make them like you.   It will only bring you down to the same level and if you continue to see each other it will be impossible to stop them in future.   What might be acceptable with your friends is never “OK” on a date.  You want to present the best possible version of yourself at all times to make a last impression.  So act like a gentleman or a lady.

It’s also worth pointing out that rudeness is just as bad.    ALWAYS be polite and friendly to waiters, cloakroom staff and anyone you meet during the date.  If you are mean, sarcastic or arrogant then that’s the quickest way to making sure you don’t get another date.

This doesn’t just apply to face to face meetings but also to your online encounters.   Never try to spice up your profile or messages with obscenities and stay clear of this with online chat too.  If someone upsets or offends you don’t be tempted to respond rudely just to retaliate.    Instead,  delete the message, block their profile and carry on.  They weren’t worth it anyway!

Good luck!
